- When George was only 11 his father died; he looked up to his half brother, Lawrence, as his new role model.
- He was the Commander in Chief of Continental Army during the American Revolution from 1775-1783.
- He was the only president elected unanimously by the electoral college; he also won his second election unanimously.
- He created the tradition of serving as president for only two terms and established the cabinet system with only three positions.
- He had faith in Divine Providence, and he followed his own moral code of right and wrong.
- He had no children of his own, but he was devoted to the son and daughter of his wife, Martha, by her first marriage.
- He demonstrated skill in mathematics and surveying; he was competent as a field surveyor by the age of 15. He spent several years as a land surveyor.
- He selected John Jay as the first Chief Justice.
- Under his guidance, a federal court system was established by the Judiciary Act of September 24th, 1789.
